By training people to earn a livelihood through leather crafting, we are fulfilling our commitment to share God's blessings. ๐Ÿ˜Š Last week, we conducted the first of a series of leathercrafting skills training, in cooperation with DTI Masbate and Rodeo Masbateรฑo Inc., in Masbate City, Masbate. All materials and equipment were supplied by the team of DTI Masbate and granted to Rodeo Masbateรฑo Inc. for their livehood building program. We came and trained, laughed with, and learned with over 20 willing, committed participants. A dear friend of ours asked us to make desk organi A dear friend of ours asked us to make desk organizers for her love ones. I saw this opportunity to make the holders out of mobile boxes wrapped in leather and use box stitching to cover them. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š In the earlier times, leather craftsmen would take the time to carefully attach panels of thicker leather on the base form of the box, then use box stitching to bind these panels at the corners, creating solidly made boxes that lasts generations. For this project I used vegetable tanned leather thinned down to 1mm thickness as the wrap of the base form of the boxes. Once I was done with that, I they precisely cut the side and bottom panels of thick (2mm) vegetable tanned leather and attached it to the base. I slowly stitched the corners using box stitching. It took some time but the result was as classic looking as it could be. Though it took some time to make, due mainly to th Though it took some time to make, due mainly to the amount of design, pre-forming and precision cutting needed, this is still one of our most enjoyable custom order to make: a bike boot bag.๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š It's made of 3 layers of vegetable tanned leather, hand cut to exact dimensions and hand assembled and hand stitched, because machines won't be able to accommodate the unique curves of the bag.
